Hi there and welcome to my website!

My name is Paul Shiers and I am a painter. I am self taught and have been experimenting with paint since I was very young. There are lots of ways that I find inspiration for a painting but often find that the more free your mind is when you approach a new painting, the more interesting and exciting the result is!

For me painting is not about creating an image of something, it is about conveying simple emotions on canvas. Colour, form and composition are everywhere in the world. I find that I like all kinds of art but enjoy painting the most when I don't try too hard and the results are generally better.

Mention drip painting to people and generally one artist springs to mind - Jackson Pollock. I really like his paintings and this is fairly obvious from my drip abstract art section! I love art in any of its forms really but simple expression and use of colour move me the most. Art is all about letting go and not contsraining your brushsrokes to explanatory markings.

I would say that I am a student of art visiting galleries and reading anything and everything I can get my hands on especially about the artists I like. Turner, Rothko, Pollock, Van Gogh and many many others are my influences for different reasons. I like to try to keep my art simple and don't really have a high-sounding reason for painting. I simply enjoy the experience alot and if I like the end result then that is a bonus!
